The sudden demise of Sushil Sharma, Senior Boxing Coach at the Sports Authority of India (SAI), has deeply saddened and shocked sports lovers across the country.
A legendary figure in Indian boxing, Sharma made history in 1971 by captaining the National Boxing Club, Hoshiarpur to its first-ever state-level trophy at the Senior Punjab Boxing Championship in Sunam. At the same tournament, he won the bantamweight gold and was named the Best Boxer. Over his illustrious career, he won a bronze at the Senior National Boxing Championship, a silver at the All India Inter-University Championship, and multiple gold medals across Punjab University, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh championships.
In 1979, the Government of India deputed him to successfully organize the First National Nepal Games in Kathmandu. As an elite coach, he trained numerous international, national, and state-level record-breaking champions. For his exceptional contributions to sports, he was honored by the Sports Authority of India, the Indian Army, and various state boxing associations.
